1 Introduction

1.1 What is DAISY?

Digital Accessible Information System, or DAISY, has originally been
developed as the successor of the audio cassette. DAISY books have the
benefits of regular audio books, but they offer extras, like:

Embedded navigation information: DAISY books can be navigated by
heading levels, blocks of text, and phrases, depending upon the
capabilities implemented for a particular title.

Enhanced content: Besides audio, DAISY books can also consist of text,
images, MathML, etc

S ynchron ization: DAISY books typically synchronize audio content, like
speech, to textual content, like the table of content or even the complete
text of the book.l.

Technically, DAISY is a standard based on XML. It is standardized as
ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2005. Using this framework, a talking book format is
presented with enabled navigation within a sequential and hierarchical
structure consisting of (marked-up) text synchronized with audio. DAISY
assists people who, for different reasons, have problems using regular
print media.

1.2 What is Series 60?

Todays mobile phones let you do much more than just placing phone calls or
sending short text messages (SMS). They usually have an appointment
calendar, a to-do list, an email program, a WAP browser, and other
features. And they may even come with a built-in camera, a radio, or an MP3
player.

Nokia has developed Series 60 to provide a common groundwork for
smartphones that meet such requirements and licenses it to other mobile
phone manufacturers, saving them from having to reinvent the wheel and
enabling them to concentrate on design or application features that make
their devices unique.

The model name of a phone is not an indication of whether the phone is
based on the Series 60 platform. For example, the Nokia 6xxx models are not
necessarily Series 60 phones.

1.3 What is Nuance Daisy2go?

Nuance Daisy2go is a player/viewer for books that conform to the DAISY 2.02
and DAISY 3 specification, for mobile phones running S60 3rd and 5th
Edition. Daisy2go is a part of the Nuance Accessibility Suite, and it has
been optimized for Nuance TALKS, to allow for easy alternation between
audio and textual content.

Nuance Daisy2go provides the following functionality:

A Bookshelf view, which allows you to find, sort, open, and delete DAISY
titles.

The Content view, which can show the content for the selected DAISY
title in tree or list view, and allows you to select the chapter or section
you want to access.

The Bookmarks view, which lists all bookmarks defined for the selected
DAISY title, and allows deleting them.

The Text view, which displays the textual content of a DAISY book. Text
size and colour can be changed. For a title with audio and text content,
this is synchronized with the audio tracks that make up the book.

The Play view, which shows the navigation levels for the selected book,
Heading1, Heading2, , Heading6, Textblock, and Phrase.

The Book Info view, which shows information about the selected DAISY
title, such as the format, title, publisher, author, narrator, creator,
duration, etc., depending upon what is available for the selected book.

Forward and backward cueing, like on a tape recorder, with adjustable
speed.

Increase or decrease the playback volume.

Increase or decrease the playback speed without pitch changes

Searching the text or table of contents of a title for specific word or
phrase

Optional auto-resume at start-up, or for a selected DAISY title.
